What is the Manitoba Parenatal Benefit?

To help you eat well while you are pregnant, the Manitoba government will send you a monthly cheque if you also:

  • live in Manitoba
  • have a low to moderate income (net family income less than about $32,000 a year).

How much will the Parenatal Benefit be?

The amount of your cheque depends on how much money you (and your spouse, if you are married or living common law) made last year. Many people will receive about $80 a month. Others will receive lower amounts.

When can I start getting the benefit?

Apply as soon as possible. The benefit can start by your 14th week of pregnancy.

How long will this benefit last?

The benefit is paid while you are pregnant and ends in the month your baby is due. After your baby is born, federal child benefits begin.

There are also Healthy Baby community support programs.

These are friendly and informal services. They can answer your questions about pregnancy and your new baby. They can support you so you don't feel alone.

How do I apply for the benefit?

  • See you doctor and ask for a note about your pregnancy and due date.
  • Fill out a Manitoba Parenatal Benefit application form.
  • Send your completed application (with the doctor's note) in the envelope provided to:
